



The Governor Richard J. Oglesby Mansion & Museum located at 421 West William Street continues summer hours. The historic site will be open Wednesday (June 24), Saturday (June 27) and Sunday (June 28) from 2pm to 4pm. Tours are given by board members and volunteer docents with a suggested donation of $5 per adult and $2 per child.
In addition, the Mansion and Museum does have speakers available for group presentations. To schedule a speaker, call 217-791-1385. Presentations are about 30 minutes long. Private group tours of the museum may also be arranged for groups of 8 or more.
The Mansion is in the historic district in the Millikin Heights neighborhood in Decatur. The mission of the board of the Museum is to educate citizens of all ages about the legacy of Governor Oglesby. The Governor Oglesby Mansion and Museum is the only museum dedicated to the life legacy of Richard J. Oglesby. The Governor’s mansion is owned by the Macon County Conservation District and the contents are maintained by the Governor Oglesby Mansion, Inc board of directors.
“Tourists will be able to see many of the original features of the home as they were when the Governor and his family lived in it,” says board president Dave Davis. The July 27th open house will feature the luxurious study. The room includes an original fireplace, an original 3,000 piece parquet floor, original wallpaper and woodwork. It is the most original room in the mansion.

The Museum is handicapped accessible with a chair lift available at the west door. The Mansion will also be open on the last Sunday of each month through November. More information about the Mansion is available on our Facebook page.
