The Oglesby Mansion and Museum will host their first fall open house on Sunday, September 27th. The museum will be open from 2pm t0 4pm and is located at 421 West William St in Decatur’s historic district. Decatur Garden Club members decorated the home for fall.
A $5 per adult and $2 per child donation is requested. Tourists are encouraged to take pictures inside the home. Tours are hosted by volunteer docents, current and past members of the board of directors of the mansion. The tours are family friendly and the first floor is handicapped accessible with a chairlift available to enter the mansion.
Tourists take a step back into time when they enter the same door Ulysses S Grant entered in 1880 when he visited his friend Richard J Oglesby. The mansion features many unique original features such as thick pocket doors, original flooring and carved wood and the Governor’s library is the most original room including the original wallpaper!
The Mansion will be open on the last Sunday of each month through November.
