Oglesby Mansion to Host Sunday, May 31st Open House

The Governor Richard J. Oglesby Mansion and Museum located at 421 West William Street (Decatur) will be hosting an Open House on Sunday, May 31st (2pm-4pm). Tourists are encouraged to take pictures inside the home.

This tour will highlight the authentic clothing owned by the Governor and his family. The articles include his overcoat, top hat, his wife’s mourning dress, hat pins and more! The Mansion is in the historic district in the Millikin Heights neighborhood in Decatur. The mission of the board of the Museum is to educate citizens of all ages about the legacy of Governor Oglesby. The Governor Oglesby Mansion and Museum is the only museum dedicated to the life legacy of Richard J. Oglesby. The Governor’s mansion is owned by the Macon County Conservation District and the contents are maintained by the Governor Oglesby Mansion, Inc board of directors.

Tours are hosted by volunteer docents, current and past members of the board of directors of the mansion. Suggested donation of $5 per adult and $2 per child. All donations go to maintain the contents of the museum

The Museum is handicapped accessible with a chair lift available at the west door. The Mansion will also be open on the last Sunday of each month through November. More information about the Mansion is available on our Facebook page.
